For summer 2023, the program was in person for the first time. There were 8 INSPIRE U2 Scholars, seven of whom were rising sophomores. Their majors were psychology (2), mathematics (1), biology (1), economics (1), accounting (1) and neuroscience (1). The Summer 2023 INSPIRE U2 Scholars are Areyona Evans, Allyanna Lewis, Nadeja Jackson, Yusrat Sanni, Laila Saulsberry, Anaya Stenson, Sasha Villefranche, and Kendal Walker.
Aside from Dr. Blankson, five faculty served as Senior Mentors: Dr. Lisa Harlow, Asya Spears, Dr. Laura Stapleton, Dr. Kimberly Williams, and Dr. Miesha Williams. Additionally, there were four RStudio Mentors: Jess Kunke, Shane Lubold, Anna Neufeld, and Rrita Zejnullahi. Refilwe Kai-Sikhakhane served as a mentor to Bootcamp participant Amirah Mckinley.
There were two Junior Mentors: Victoria Rivera and Valeria Sanchez Estrada. Junior Mentors served as a source of support for their peers. Both Victoria and Valeria participated in the summer 2022 INSPIRE U2 program.
Students attended an RBootcamp, mindfulness sessions, professional development sessions, and engaged in team-building activities. The RBootcamp was taught by Dr. Blankson, with a special guest session taught by Dr. Mine Çetinkaya-Runde. Mindfulness sessions were led by Dr. Natalie Watson-Singleton. Professional development sessions were led by Dr. Jenay Sermon along with Tianna Mobley. The INSPIRE U2 program also co-hosted a career panel, together with the Quantitative Access and Diversity Squad (QUAD Squad). Students worked with their mentors to completed an independent research project using secondary data that they presented at the end of the summer.
