The 2023 program will be in person.
What are the dates for the summer 2023 program?
June 5-July 28, 2023
When are applications due for the Summer 2023 program?
Reviews will begin on January 16, 2023 and will be conducted on a rolling basis until March 15, 2023. The application window for the 2023 summer program will open on November 15, 2022.
Where do my recommendation letter writers submit their letters?
Letter writers should submit their letters via the link on the Apply page.
How many students are supported in this REU Site?
We have funding to support up to 8 students.
What costs does the program cover?
Participants will receive a stipend and travel costs (e.g., registration fees) for conference attendance.
When will I hear about the decision on my application?
Finalists will be notified by April 1, 2023.
I am currently a junior or senior. Am I eligible to participate in this REU program?
No, all REU participants for the INSPIRE U2 program must be current female first year undergraduates who are from underrepresented groups (sophomores might also be considered depending on number of first year applications received).
Is this REU opportunity open to students at Spelman?
Yes. However, all participants will be selected through a national search.
What types of projects will students complete during the REU program?
The project topics will depend on the interest of the REU student and her faculty mentor. Students will work on analyzing Big Data and will also work in a mentor’s research lab during the summer. Thus, this REU Site provides students with opportunities to not only collect data, but to analyze data as well. See Summer 2021 REU and Summer 2022 REU page for examples of student projects.
