Uncommon Schools Summer Teaching Fellowship
Uncommon School is a network of 53 high performing urban public charter schools in Boston (MA), New York City (NY). Newark (NJ), Camden (NJ), and Troy (NY). A major in education or prior teaching experience is NOT required for admittance into the program; however, the strongest candidates exhibit a demonstrated passion for working with students and an interest in pursuing teaching as a profession long-term.
The Summer Teaching Fellowship is 7 to 10 weeks long and runs between May 26th to August 2nd, 2019. After spending time observing, learning, and leading instruction in our classrooms, the majority of our Fellows receive and accept full-time offers to teach at Uncommon upon graduation.
During the program, Fellows receive:
•$3,500 – $6,000 stipend (subject to all applicable payroll taxes and fees; for Elementary or Middle School Fellows)
•Travel stipend ($150 – $400, varies by region)
•Free dormitory-style housing (or an additional $800 stipend for Fellows who opt out of housing and find their own accommodation for summer; housing stipend also subject to all applicable payroll taxes and fees)
•Meals (breakfast and/or lunch) at select mandatory professional development sessions during the first week of the program. Fellows are responsible for the cost of their own meals through the majority of the program.
