Student Entrepreneurship
Member of CPI team, Desjane’ Venable, participated along with other fellow leaders in Georgia’s education ecosystem in the event “Georgia University Student Entrepreneurship Initiative”. In an effort to spur collaboration across Georgia campuses the Georgia University Entrepreneurship Initiative was held for the faculty, staff, and students building entrepreneurial programs in universities across the state. The Georgia University Student Entrepreneurship Initiative event featured a student panel of entrepreneurs that provided insight to the attendees on ways that colleges and universities can provide additional career pathways for students to be successful. This event was a combined effort of Invest Atlanta, The Metro Atlanta Chamber, TIE Atlanta/TYE University, Kennesaw State University, Georgia State University, and the I6 grant.

CPI Team Involved in Campus-Wide Activities in August
The CPI steering committee met at the beginning of this academic year to plan and outline on-going CPI endeavors. The committee discussed feedback from the annual CPI June convening meeting and CPI summer activities, as well as received insight on CPI-related tech products. The retreat culminated with a roadmap of activities to be planned and accomplished during this academic year.
As the retreat was a success , members of the CPI team (Dr. Pavri, Dr. Dickens, Dr. Holmes, Dr. Williams, and Dr. Marshall) conducted a CPI presentation to over 150 Spelman Faculty at the Faculty Institute. The team further introduced CPI initiatives and discussed how those initiatives will start to impact various academic disciplines.
The busy month of August concluded with members of CPI team (Dr. Pavri, Dr. Dickens, Harold Bell, and Desjane’ Venable) introducing the Career Pathways Initiative to incoming freshmen class of 2021 at the New Student Orientation with games and question and answer segments. The CPI team engaged over 400 freshman with the theme of embracing career pathways through academics and explaining the initiative as a process that is iterative and continues across the professional life span.
Spelman College CPI Team attends UNCF 2ND Annual Convening Meeting
The convening centered on the design thinking question, “How might our institutions provide intentional and sustainable pathways to build 21st Century competencies and help all our graduates find meaningful employment in their desired career field?” UNCF 2nd Annual Career Pathways Initiative Convening not only provided a new way to look at how our institutions operate in a 21st century space but it also allowed reflection on the challenges HBCUs and PBIs–as well as higher education, in general–may encounter when implementing transformative initiatives.
